Obituary of William Boyd Clory

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of William Boyd Clory, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday August 15, 2023 at Gordon Hall in Moncton

Born in Lourdes, Nova Scotia, January 15, 1934, Boyd was the son of the late Harry and Janet (Boyd) Clory.  After graduating from Moncton High School, he was employed by Maritime Central Airways as a passenger agent and later as a flight dispatcher.  He then joined Transport Canada, where he  began a 35 year career in Air Traffic Control, serving as a VFR and IFR controller as well as Shift Supervisor and Shift Manager in Moncton.  He worked in Goose Bay as Supervisor and Unit Chief before moving to Ottawa to help develop the Managerial Training System for Air Traffic Controllers.  Boyd spent the final years of his career in Moncton as a Course Director in IFR Training.  He was a Charter Member of the Canadian Air Traffic Control Association (CATCA) and served as National Vice President.  Boyd was also a Charter Member, and served as President of the Moncton Toastmasters Club. He was a  member of the Beausejour Curling Club and  Lakeside Golf Club.

Guided by his love and passion for music, he dedicated much of his time  directing and singing in many church choirs.  He especially loved close vocal harmony, and his long time association with the Barbershop Harmony Society and the Moncton Gentlemen of Harmony Chorus - as a quartet and chorus member, President, and Chorus Director-brought him many years of joy.  Boyd was also active in directing the Codiac Chords Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus.

As a parishioner, he was always very active, serving on parish councils, as a lector, choir director, and Eucharistic Minister, and, of course, a soloist.

Boyd naturally radiated love, wisdom, gentleness, kindness, warmth, welcoming hospitality, and a magnificent sense of humour. These qualities drew people to love and admire him as a devoted family man, colleague, and friend.

Boyd was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters: Agnes Clory, Lorraine Daley (Pat), and Josephine Deeble (Ted). He is survived by his wife Claire Clory (née Belliveau); his three sons: Michael (Nan), Bedford, NS; Alan (Joanne), Halifax, NS; and Mark (Ramil), Burlington, ON; the mother of his children, Imelda (Rossiter) Clory , Halifax, NS; grandchildren: Conar, Kiara (Doug), Kelsey and William; stepsons: Alex (Janna), Paul, Chris (Sarah); step-grandchildren: Edward and Stella (their mother Kelly), Vivienne, Noah, Liam, Isabelle, Genevieve and Charlie; sister-in-law Lynn Richard (Pierre); as well as Boyd’s many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Li for his many years of care, the wonderful staff at Moncton Hospital, and the staff at Gordon Hall for their kindness, compassion and care.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Fergusons Riverview Funeral Centre, 214 Pine Glen Road, Riverview, on Thursday August 24, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with parish prayers at 7:30 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 5 Fatima Drive, Riverview on Friday, August 25 at 11 am, with a reception to follow at the parish hall.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital.
